College Tennis in the US
College tennis offers a great opportunity for players to combine their athletic and academic goals. Athletes like John Isner, Cameron Norrie, and James Blake have successfully used college tennis as a development platform. German players such as Benjamin Becker and Dominik Koepfer are also prime examples.
In the US, college sports hold a very high status. Especially in tennis, university team coaches often recruit international players who, in return for their athletic performance, receive sports scholarships. This financial support enables players to compete at the highest level while simultaneously pursuing a regular degree.
To receive a sports scholarship, athletes must meet certain performance requirements depending on the college league. Particularly at Division I colleges, the level is so high that some players make the direct leap into professional tennis. Together with our partner, we prepare you optimally for this challenge — with top-class training and individual support throughout the application process.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I obtain a tennis scholarship in the USA?
The path consists of three steps: 1) You complete your high school diploma (Abitur) either online or at our partner school. 2) Simultaneously, you earn crucial ITF ranking points through our professional training and tournament support. 3) Leveraging these achievements and our network, we place you with US colleges, where the head coaches decide on the awarding of athletic scholarships.
What are the advantages of college tennis compared to entering the pro tour directly?
College tennis offers a unique development platform: you play in a team, enjoy professional conditions, and have an academic foundation after graduation. This reduces the financial and mental pressure for the subsequent pro tour – many top players, such as Dominik Koepfer, have successfully taken this path.
How does the nensel academy support me in preparing for the USA?
We train you long-term to ensure you are internationally competitive – a fundamental requirement for Division I colleges. When the time comes, we and our partners provide individual guidance throughout the application process and utilize our excellent network to find the right team for you.
What exactly does an athletic scholarship at a US college cover?
A full athletic scholarship can completely cover the costs of tuition and living expenses in the USA. This effectively refinances your previous tennis training with us. You can compete at the highest level while earning a regular degree without having to bear the high tuition fees yourself.
At which colleges are nensel academy players currently enrolled?
Our players are spread across various colleges in the USA. Among others, they are studying in Florida, Indiana, Texas, New Mexico, Michigan, and Massachusetts.
